The Package Tour Industry

(The Pioneers and the Guinea Pigs)

If you have seen 'Holidays From Hell' and the Easy Jet series on television then you will know after reading this book that those programs barely scratch the surface.

The Package Tour Industry gives us a wonderful insight into the history of this relatively new industry and at its outset featuring a world of dilapidated hotels populated by indifferent hoteliers deliberately overbooking rooms along with poorly serviced aircraft journeying passengers on 1-mile high roller-coaster rides and after interminable delays. Millions of us take package holidays for granted every year but did you ever wonder how it all began? Thanks to Vincent Cobb's 35 years experience working in the travel industry culminating in his position as Managing director of Thomson Holidays we can learn about all the tricks they had to get up to, which formed the basis of the business at its outset. This fascinating book allows us to observe the industries steep learning curve from it's infancy in the late 50's to the present day using you the public as guinea pigs. You will find this a gripping yet refreshingly humorous account. The author will tell you of dramatic journeys by plane, coach and ship, both by day and night, involving relentless pressure and many sleepless nights. Fasten your seat belts and get ready for a bumpy ride!

Vincent Cobb

Vincent Cobb the author

Vince has published three books to date with his third, Nemesis, published this year.

His first book, "The Package Tour Industry", that came out in the summer of 2002, is an anecdotal account of his thirty-five years experience in the inclusive tour industry and tells the story of those early days from the late fifties, which saw the beginnings of Package Tours by air, up to the present day.

It is an hilarious and often terrifying history of the beginnings what is now a giant industry. The Package Tour Industry gives us a wonderful insight into the history of this relatively new industry which at its outset features a world of dilapidated hotels populated by indifferent hoteliers deliberately overbooking rooms along with poorly serviced aircraft journeying passengers on 1-mile high roller-coaster rides suffering often interminable delays. His second book, although a novel, does have its origins in fact. Leave a Light on for Jesus is a sad and at times brutal story of how abuse and betrayal damages the life of a young boy beyond redemption. It is not a book for the fainthearted challenging as it is.

Nemesis his third novel was published in the Spring of 2005. This is the story of a Woman Police Officer, Angela Crossley, and her experiences with Connie Rowden, a young psychic girl who has a vision that enables her to lead the Police to the burial site of a Paedophile Serial killer's young female victims. Seven bodies are recovered from a septic tank deep in the woods, including the little girl the police have been searching for. Unfortunately, Connie suffers a mental collapse as a result of the horrific discovery, and is hospitalised in a psychiatric unit for a number of years. The killer remains at large.

When Angie returns from University she is promoted to Detective Sergeant at the young age of twenty-four. The killer from four years earlier has never been apprehended, but the Psychiatrist caring for Connie, a Doctor Paul Simmons, informs Angie that does not mean the killing of children will have stopped The story continues with the intensifying pursuit of a vicious psychopath, whom Connie has terrifying visions of from time to time; something tells her the killer is familiar from somewhere in her past, but her loss of memory prevents her from identifying him. Further children go missing and the story culminates in a nightmarish scene in the cellar of a house where the killer lives, when Connie finally comes face to face with her tormentor. The terrible consequences that follow have a devastating affect upon the lives of everyone involved.
